We've been a little behind the times in creating a website or blog so this is our first attempt to keep everyone informed.

It's time to sign up for this year's HSPT classes. To register your child, please send your name, child's name, mailing address, email address, and the name of the school your child is currently attending to JanLuhrs@cox.net

Your son or daughter must be currently a 7th grader to sign up. Our classes are for students that will begin their eighth grade year in the fall.

In late June or early July, I will be sending everyone on our list a packet of information concerning cost and dates of the test and classes. At this point, it looks like we'll be offering the test Saturday, August 24th and Sunday, August 25th. (You choose which one you'd like to attend) Classes will start the week of September 9 and will meet once each week for an hour.

After we grade the August full length practice test, we place the kids in "teachable" classes. That means we review their scores and place them with students that have basically the same skills they have. We respect carpools, but need as much flexibility as possible to place your child in classes so they can achieve maximum benefit.

I teach all the verbal, reading and language sections of the test and Debby Gaffney teaches the quantatitive and math sections of the test. Debby is also a great continuing resource for high school math students since she privately teaches algebra, geometry, trig, and calculus.

Each of our HSPT classes cover some aspect of the test. We teach overall test strategies as well as individual problem type strategies. Timing is another essential area of the test that we address.

Some students just opt to test with us. That's fine, but please let us know that when you sign up. We keep our program small so we can get to know each one of our students. Because we don't have more that 6 students in a class, we are limited to 72 students. Each year we turn students away to find out later that some we placed in class were just testing with us.

We have a great success rate with our students being accepted.  There are many factors that these private school consider including grades, teacher recommendations and recommendations.

Our course includes two full length practice tests and 14 weeks of classes.   Each full length test (2) is $60.00 and each weekly class is $45.00. We prefer that the course be paid in advance because collecting checks takes time away from teaching, but if paying the $690.00 class fee up front is a problem, please speak to me and we'll make easier arrangements.
